In this book Sir Maurice Bowra gives a descriptive and critical history of the most important works of Greek literature from its first known beginning to the Alexandrian poets of the third century BC. He considers its main authors and achievements, and not only discusses their chief qualities, but sets them in their historical circumstances as important part of Greek history.
