The immediate danger attending such an operation is the traumatism, which, of course, will be proportionate to the length of the piece of intestine removed, while the remote con sequences are due to impairment of the function of diges tion and absorption caused by the shortening of the intestinal canal. With the View of obtaining additional light on these important questions the following experiments were under taken.
