The English edition of this book is undertaken in the hope that it will bring within the easy reach of many busy men a general sketch of the Geology of the Transvaal. The original was con tributed by Dr. Molengraaff to the Geological Society of France while unable to refer to many notes and publications bearing on the subject. Although he has added one new chapter and has more or less corrected and augmented the other chapters of this edition, no attempt has been made to give a full record of the geological researches made in the Transvaal since 1900.
