From north to south the San Joaquin is 250 miles in length, with an average width of 60 miles. It were an all seeing eye, indeed, to encompass a country of this dimension. It is larger in area than several of the States of the Union. Yet it is a true valley, perfectly defined, and singularly free from topographical imperfections.
