Di que' pochi che per cert'aria di originalità, e per certa squisitezza di concetti e correzione di forme emergono dalla gran folla de' sonet tisti italiani. Tale proposizione, che, senza mancare al rispetto che devesi ad ogni Sommo, addita il posto che si conviene al mio Poeta, po trebbe per avventura non tornare affatto grade vole a talun di coloro che amano più presto ar rogarsi che avere in fatto il diritto di erigersi giudici di poesia; ma pure confido che otterrà i sufi'ragii di tutti i buoni Italiani, come appun to dall'accordo di parecchi buoni Italiani mi fu suggerita. Anzi fuvvi chi scrisse non ha molto, quasi in mio appoggio: a lo credo che ognuno reciti a mente le anacreontiche del Vittore.
