The favourable reception accorded by students and teachers to these lessons, which originally appeared in the popular educator, has led to their publica tion, with numerous additions, in a more convenient form. Founded, as they are, on Dr. Zamenhof's ekzercaro, it may not be presumptuous to call them the standard course or esperanto, as by general consent these Exercises are acknowledged to be an indispensable preliminary to the study of the language. Indeed, after working through them according to the plan prescribed on page 7, the student will have little to do beyond extending his vocabulary and acquiring facility in using the rules with which he has already become familiar; and this can best be done by reading the krestoma'ho and other models of Esperanto literature.
