Tests Generally Employed. - The tests applied to these materials consist, in the great majority of cases, Of tensile tests supplemented by some rough bending tests, and, in the case Of, say, boiler plates, drifting tests, also transverse tests for cast iron, and bulging, Hanging, and flattening tests for tubes. In a great majority Of cases the tensile tests, when properly made, give a fair indication of the value of the various materials used in locomotive construction, but they are not to be entirely depended upon.
