Cosi, per esempio, nella parola inglese abasement si trova lra parentesi indicata la pronuncia cosi: -bés dove la prima lineetta rappresenta la vocale a, e la seconda lineetta rappresenta la desi nenza ment, sicché la parola inglese si pro nuncia: a-bés-ment.
