Le plan, les annexes, et le caractère de tout l'ouvrage sont restés les mêmes, je me suis toutefois efforcé, contrairement à ce que j'avais fait précédemment, d'employer la méthode atomistique dans l'exposition de l'histoire des conciles, de représenter chacun des synodes les plus importants comme un anneau dans le développement historique de l'église, et par ce moyen de lui donner son véritable esprit.
