The Grizzly Giant, one of the most famous of the trees in the Mariposa Grove, has its first limb one hundred feet from the roots. This limb is six and one-half feet in diameter. Nine feet from the ground the tree is twenty-seven feet in diameter, and below that height its thickness increases. The tree stands grim and grizzly, far apart from any of its com panions, in sublime and solitary grandeur.
