Hence many strange aberrations of history and the social sciences, which tried with much ingenuity and little philosophy to bring immutable laws into what in the last analysis is essentially a series of interdependent bio graphies of notable individuals, and therefore must always have a large residuum that is quite incalculable, at all events by any finite observer.
