The Junior volume, based partly on the First Notions and partly on the Outlines, was published last autumn. The present section is the Intermediate and has been compiled chiefly from the Outlines, and the Shorter Grammar. The arrangement of parts and chapters is, as far as possible, the same as that adopted in the Junior Grammar. The Historical Introduction has been almost entirely rewritten. The Exercises do not form a separate dmsxon as in the original Grammars, but are appended to the chapters to which they severally belong. Many of them are new, and they are intended not only to stimulate the pupil's intelligence, but in many cases to familiarise him with the infinite variety of expression illustrated in our standard literate.
