Before N o. 9, I would play a little upon the piano in triple measure, accenting pretty strongly, and would ask the' pupil to count one, two, one, two, as before. He would see that this kind' of measuring would not answer, and I would ask him to try one, two, three. Then I would say that much music is written in measures of three parts called triple measure, or triple time. I would introduce the dotted half note, and the two dotted half notes tied, by asking him. To play tones that would fill one of these measures, and then tones that would fill two of them, three counts long.
