E, saremmo per chiedere, quanti secoli piu che quanti lustri, durò la costru zione della cinta etrusca? I sepolcri scoperti nel piano della Guerruccia e presso S. Giusto fanno fede che gli Etruschi, raccolti sull' alto del monte, dapprima non pensarono nemmeno che la loro cinta avrebbe circondato e chiuso quel piano, per chè, in tal caso, si sarebbero spinti coi loro sepolcri assai più lungi, essendo appunto nel loro rito che i sepolcri dovessero trovarsi fuori della cinta urbica.
