As to my Index, I have, as a general rule, con fined myself to Teutonic and Celtic words, and also to those Romance words which have some peculiarity. Had I inserted every Romance word I name, I must have brought out a third Volume. I have derived much benefit from criticism on my former works; this has reached me partly in print, partly by letter; I hope for many fresh comments on my New English,' and to this end I have given my address.
