They fall mainly into two categories: First, on subjects presenting music as Art, and on certain Composers. Second, on subjects relating to Practical Music Teaching. Even when brought together they do not make a book in the strict sense of the term. They are not supposed to be read through once for all; but to be read sporadically, now and then; again and again, for suggestion. In this use they will meet a certain need for young teachers, serious students and musical amateurs of the more serious kind.
