AN Elementary Latin Grammar is naturally divided into two parts, - that which should be learnt by heart, and that with which familiarity is to be gained by constant reference.

In the first of these parts - the Accidence and the Syntax Rules - our aim has been, on the one hand, conciseness, gained not by the use of abbreviations or technical terms, but by the omission of matter not essential to beginners; and, on the other hand, clearness, not only of statement, but also of type and arrange ment.

In the second part, we have endeavoured to facilitate the use of the book as a book of reference by adopting an alphabetical order, wherever it was possible.
