We have reason for gratitude to the Giver of all good that our membership has suffered no loss by death since our last meeting at Kalamazoo, and for that general prosperity which prevails, and which has brought into greater requisition the engineers' services. We have had no disturbing strikes of laborers to stop engineering work, and be it said to our praise that there has been none of the trades-union spirit in which our members use the Society to make unusual and selfish demands; but all seem to be actuated by that spirit which shall better their knowledge in their respective branches of work and professional study, and thus make their united effort a public as well as a private good.
