HE Author having had his attention called to the subject of warming and ventilating large buildings, was surprised to find so little definite information available, and that until the last few years these matters were treated (more especially as to ventilation) as of very small consequence. Numbers of buildings have been erected where apparently the ventilation and warming have never been considered at all, and could only afterwards be arranged for by cutting and patching the finished structure.

It is not professed herein to set forth complete schemes of ventilation, but a number of illustrations are given of the means by which large buildings have been successfully dealt with, and this book is offered as a humble contribution to the present knowledge of these matters, with the hope that someone competent to deal with the whole subject may further develope it.
