The text has been almost entirely rewritten to bring it up to the present state of our knowledge; a large number of diseases are described which have not previously been included and a brief account of the pathologic anatomy of the various affections has been inserted.

A considerable number of new illustrations have been added. Some of these are from drawings by the author, others are from photographs of cases occurring under his own observation and that of friends.
