IN publishing my fifth volume I must thank the large number of friends who by giving it their support as subscribers made its issue possible. The task of collect ing the materials that go to make up a volume such as the present is a very great one, and it is very largely a labour of love. Having entered upon the work of telling the story of our city's growth, district by district, I should like to complete the record, but can only continue it so long as I receive the support of others interested in the work.
