The journey from London to Ostend by the South Eastern Railway occupies only nine hours under ordinary circumstances; four hours by land and five by sea. The distance from Ostend to Liege, by railway, is performed in about seven hours; so that, allowing for delays, the whole may be completed in the twenty - four hours. The route by sea, direct from London to Ostend, is rather longer.
