In thus again appearing before the public, I have availed myself if the Opportunity to make ample and important additions to what has been already published: the extended materials, and the improved arrangement of the present volume, make it, properly speak ing, not a second edition, but a new work. I may be permitted to add, that malevolent invective has been met with contempt, whilst groundless assertions, and deliberate fabrica tions, have been encountered with moderation.
