Excerpt from X-Rays in Diagnosis
In using the X-rays for purposes of diagnosis, it Should be a rule that no definite conclusion is to be based upon a single exposure, or set of exposures, excepting in the most obvious cases, and even in such it is wise to observe this law.
The results of the first exposures should always be corro borated, or the reverse, by check exposures, made after an interval of a day or two, in order to avoid the liability to the repetition of errors, which might occur, if the check exposure were made at the same sitting as the first. There is no doubt that serious errors, in diagnosis and treatment, are often made by the neglect of this common-sense rule. The dictates of ordinary prudence would Seem to render this impossible, but it is nevertheless a fact that they frequently do not do so.
The only excuse for acting upon a single exposure is either extreme urgency, or some combination of circum stances which renders it impracticable to obtain a check experiment. The following is a case in point.
