T o the Turks, the Englifh were but a hardy variety of Chriftians, to whom - following their cuftom with regard to all the foreign nations with which they came in contaét - they gave the defignation, as an appropriate nickname, of 'the Clothiers.' To the Spaniards; they were execrable heretics, doomed to be conquered by them in this world, and to endlefs torment in the next.
