I can assure them of the great regard in which they are held by their British cotemporaries, and of a sincere desire, on my part at least, that terms of confidence, friendship and amity should be cultivated between us. The compliment paid to my father by the late Dr. Dewees, in the republication of his Work at Philadelphia, was highly prized by him; and the repetition of that compliment to myself is calculated to establish in my mind the same sentiments of esteem which he cherished to the last hour of his existence.
