Fortunately none of our equipment had been injured, and we lost no time in transferring it to Santiago 'and getting the work of construction under way. Ground was broken for the Observatory buildings on May 27, and the installation was completed, with the exception of the electric line to the city, on September 11. Observing was commenced on the latter date, but was suspended for a while during October until the line was completed.
