The validity of the perfect square approximation depends upon the degree to which 5 z 17. For that reason, 5 values have been calculated for a range of values of the complex dielectric constant using standard expressions for the complex Fresnel reflection coefficient. For radiation of free-space wavelength )\o mm and angle of incidence 90 35° results of these calculations are shown in the contour diagram of Fig. L.
