En effet, les plus hautes fonctions de l'écorce, celles que nous qualifions proprement de mentales se relient par une dégradation insensible aux plus hum bles fonctions de la moelle. Physiologiquement, il n'y a pas entre elles de ligne de démarcation bien tranchée, et puisqu'elles sont en réalité inséparables, nous ne devons pas dans notre étude les séparer.
