Pareillement, voici un bâton plongé à demi dans l'eau; il semble courbé quoiqu'il soit droit; c'est qu'entre la présence du bâton et ma perception il y plusieurs intermédiaires, dont le premier est un fais ccsu de rayons lumineux. A l'ordinaire, c'est - à-dire quand le bâton est tout entier dans l'air ou dans l'eau, si une moitié des rayons est infléchie par rapport à l'autre, le bâton est effectivement courbé; mais ce n'est là que l'ordinaire. Si, par exception, le bâton droit est plongé dans deux milieux inégalement ré fracteurs, quoiqu'il soit droit, une moitié des rayons sera intléchie par rapport a l'autre, et j'aurai la méme perception que si le bâton était courbé.
