Canada's 1958 flaxseed and soybean acreages are placed at and acres, respectively, according to the first preliminary official estimate released August 12. Flaxseed plantings are thus one fourth less than 1957 acreage and 17 percent less than March 1 intentions. Soybean plantings at acres are about 2 percent larger than in 1957 and 7 percent above March 1 intentions.
