Tomado por ilustre biógrafo, el general Mitre, como argu mento principal dentro de una época en la cual no le tocó desempeñar un rol decisivo, su figura, falta de contornos épicos. Esfumase con frecuencia, y se pierde entre los particulares y epi sodios del vasto cuadro. Ello ha perjudicado grandemente su in discutible grandeza moral, cuyo relieve habria resaltado como era lógico, si se hubiese reducido a justa proporción su biografia.
