For preventive purposes the voluntary transference Of a benign variola is surely recommended here, the vents however, may indicate system generally, in which case the disease is to be transmitted by simple exposure or we may take it more literally and an operation then suggests itself. The last three lines giving preference in very modern - sounding language to the avoidance of infection by contact, seems to me to lend strength'to the latter interpretation.
