Due to the Principle that change is not desirable, the Amish people have continued the use of this music for more than two and one - half centuries. For them this Music has never been written but they passed it on from ear to ear for more than two hundred and fifty years.

It is apparent to the Leaders now that this Music cannot be retained in the original form unless it is written. Some Leaders who have traveled about find that there is considerable difference in different communities in the sing ing of these hymns, so in order to preserve this music in as nearly as possible the original form the writer has felt it his privilege to do this work.
