M. De Humboldt est versé dans toutes les sciences; il les connaît dans leur théorie et leur pratique; il a mis la main aux choses; il compte parmi les autorités, parmi les inventeurs; et, quand il rassemble les matériaux, il ne compile pas, il choisit et coordonne.
