By reference to Statement A, the total receipts during the fiscal year aggregated 22, to which sum must be added the balance in the Treasury proper September 30, 1897, of and cash to the credit of the various Funds' Account of 8509. 865 44, making the total receipts $4; 318. 24, 01 a gain cf 86222 20. 08 over that of the year previous. Exclusive, however, of balances and the amount to the credit of the several Sinking Funds and the Common Free School Fund, the ordinary receipts were $3, 095 314. 22 as against for the year 1897, or a gain of $32 3 258. 82.
