Excerpt from La Semiramide: A Serious Opera, in Two Acts; As Represented at the King's Theatre in the Haymarket

Or. This day, thou knowest, the queen is to elect a successor to the Assyrian Throne. From Lybia's sandy deserts a foreboding God pronounced the Oracle, that, as soon as the torch of Hymen with new bright splendour will shine on the royal bed, Babylon shall be blessed with happier fate, and Ninus, undisturbed in his tomb, will rest in peace. Thus spoke the gm; you now may see the extent of your hopes.
