This interdisciplinary approach allows the author to suggest insightful parallels and contrasts between psychological and social perceptions of space and time and those of science. The book concludes with an intriguing suggestion that this approach might be applied to the search for a unified field theory in contemporary physics.

Murad Akhundov was born in Baku, Azerbaidzhan, which was until relatively recently a center of the Zoroastrian religion. This background is reflected in the book's discussions of mythology and religion. Akhundov was educated in Moscow and is now on the staff of the Institute of Philosophy of the Soviet Academy of Sciences.
