The artificial propagation of wild turkeys which possess those same desirable sporting characteristics exhibited by the true wild birds is a most difficult matter. The experimental return to a system of cross-mating employed in a limited way by the Commission over twenty years ago appeared, however, to present a method of producing birds of the desired type, but before investing large sums of money for such purposes it was deemed wise to determine definitely whether or not birds so reared were actually superior to those produced by the usual methods.
