This method, although it is based in general upon the Poole system of indexing, instead of book-cataloging methods, presents definite advantages over the system of the American Literary Index, as will readily be found in practice. It increases in large measure the scope of the work, and it has been impracticable to include as many periodicals as were included under the old system. It is intended, however, to include in the five-yearly Poole, issued under the editorship of Mr. Fletcher, a larger range of periodicals than hitherto included in the present Annual.
