Excerpt from The Part Song Galaxy, Vol. 1: Consisting of Part Songs and Quartettes; Composed, Selected and Edited, for the Use of Quartette Clubs, Choral Societies, and the Home Circle

For three or more Voices, without accompaniment, we must acknowledge that the title of this book was adopted for want of a better one. Still, as the larger proportion of the music here included, may, and should (with adequate talent), be sung unaccom panied; and considering the cxtrcmelv elastic (modern) use of the term Part Song/7 our title is perhaps as appropriate as could well be found, consistent with the brevity which good taste demands.
