The completion of this work has been delayed much longer than was anticipated, when the design of publication was first announced. It is believed, however, that the subscribers will not feel that they have cause for complaint on thisiground when they are informed, that the delay was owing partly to the exten sion of the work to' above one hundred pages more than was promised, and partly to the unwearied pains that have been taken to make it as comprehensive and perfect as possible.
