Our dictionary being intended for home and school, we have kept within certain bounds, and have not aimed at absolute completeness. We have restricted the number of purely scientific and technical terms so far as to insert only such as occur in works likely to be read by the educated classes. Expressions which might have proved puzzling to those who do not boast a special or technical education, have been briefly explained On the other hand.
