Godefroid le Courageux mourut en 1069, laissant un fils qui hérita du titre ducal et une fille, Ida, mariée en secondes noces à Eustache, comte de Bon logue et de Lens Son fils Godefroid, dit le Bossu, fut un prince distingué par sa bravoure et ses qua lités morales époux de l'illustre Mathilde, mar quise de Toscane, il mourut sans enfants et après avoir adopté l'un de ses neveux celui qui devait illustrer le nom de la petite ville de Bouillon.
