Moreover, for the benefit of those who wish to instruct in the Phonic method of spelling, we have arranged the ten Pronouncing Lessons according to the sounds of the vowels, and have printed the silent letters, in all the spell ing exercises, in italics; but we have omitted the diacritical marks, except those for the long and the short sounds. If the teacher wishes to use additional diacritical marks, for phonic exercises, it is best to put them on the blackboard, in accordance with the dictionary used in the school.
