Dans la grande comme dans la petite circulation, les artères communiquent avec les veines par l'intermédiaire d'un système de canaux très fins, qui, en raison même de leur ténuité, ont reçu le nom de vaisseaux capillaires ou tout simple ment de capillaires. C'est au niveau des réseaux capillaires que s'effectuent, entre le fluide sanguin et les milieux ambiants, ces échanges osmotiques qui ont pour résultats, comme nous l'avons vu plus haut: 1° dans la grande circulation, de transformer le sang artériel en sang veineux; 2° dans la petite circulation, de transformer le sang veineux en sang artériel.
