The Divine Author of our being hasinl'eparably conned} cd our duty and happinefs together, and the breach of that duty with our mifery. This is the fixed, unalterable can' fiitution and nature of things, which no man can change; and therefore, no man ever did, or ever can difregard or vio late his duty with impunity. If men would coolly and im partially relleét on this momentous truth, it would place the goodnefs of the Almighty in a confpicuous light, and be it {cures of warm gratitude 3 it would be a (hang incentiv: to obey his commandments, and a check to the br'each of them. Chrillianity points out our duty; it enjoins humility, peace, purity and mutual love - piety to God, and benevolence to man. Every rcileéting perlon mull be confcious that the happinels of individuals, and welfare of fociety, can only be fecured by the practice of thefe and that mifery and wretch. Ednefs mull be the inevitable refult of their Oppolite vices.
