Excerpt from A Christian Views New York Jewry: Addresses

I am proud to write these words of introduction to some of the speeches of my life-long friend, William T. Collins, who during his entire public career has spoken steadfastly and acted vigorously to banish from our life the intolerance and bigotry that so often makes us Jews sad-eyed and bewildered.

What I said on May 8, 1937, over the coast to coast networks of the National Broadcasting Company and the Mutual Broad casting System, I now say in black and white: Supreme Court Judge William T. Collins has a natural apti tude for tolerance. His right of selection in his likes, makes him pro rather than anti. In the many years of association with Collins, I have never known him to voice his sentiments against a thing, simply for the sake of being in opposition.

But I have been witness to many instances of his championing, unsolicited, the downtrodden and the persecuted. His defense of the baited Jew is not the aid forwarded only in an emergency. Many years ago Collins began preaching tolerance, with the hope in heart and mind, that it would forestall any future, continued attempt to race persecution.

Tolerance, in the preventative state against the danger of such disease as hate, is the true nobility of man. Judge Collins was cited by the American Hebrew Magazine, as being the man who did the most for Jewry in New York, last year. He has for over a decade been listed as a leader, for championing the cause, not only of the Jew, but of all persecuted minorities. I would feel myself without a sense of appreciation and justice, if I did not here and now make mention of the purpose and action of one William T. Collins.
