Excerpt from The Mentor, Vol. 2: December, 1892
Thus the first three or four months passed, but we needed much more time in order to make advancement. So, as soon as we understood each other enough to be able to get along, I began bringing him to my home, where we could have a day, or days, at a time. From this time forth he made rapid progress. He was intensely eager for this new Opportunity, pathetically appreciative of nature and this brighter life, Of which hitherto he had known nothing. His struggles with our language were heroic and never faltering. Within eleven months he was in school, the Kindergarten Of the Perkins Institute for the Blind.
