The Anthems, Hymns, Sequences, and Canticles, both those Which regularly occur in the Offices and those Which are appointed for special occasions, although particularly designed to be sung, may, nevertheless, in the absence of choirs and others Who sing, at the discretion of the minister, be read by himself alone, or alternately With the people.

When Matins are not immediately followed by a Sermon or the Holy Communion, the Hymn for the Otfice shall be sung in the place indicated by the rubric, namely, before the First Lesson.
